ZESCO Ltd was incorporated in 1970 after which the training centre was then established in 1971. The main objectives of the centre were as follows: To equip untrained manpower with basic skills in OHL & CJ not offered in other institutions. Train craftsmen, who could later be upgraded to the levels of Technician, Technologist, and later to Degree level. To train new people to take over from those skilled persons who left the Corporation through retirement, resignation, separation, or death. Train enough skilled manpower to man the expanding electricity industry To train technical staff to enable them to cope with new Technology
ZTC identified four strategic focus areas that will enable the institution to deliver its promise to the customer and subsequently lead to the achievement of the vision.

ZESCO Training centres core business is training. ZTC offers training in Electrical Fitting, Cable Jointing, Overhead Lines Construction and Maintenance. Additional electrical short intensive courses are also offered on a need-based basis.
However, the centre has in the recent past engaged in the following additional activities:
We have so far been consulted on staying of Aerial Bundled Conductor installations crossing of overhead lines at different voltage levels and general overhead line construction works. In future, we plan to run research so as to form a solid foundation for consultancy services. These will have to run parallel with training in all long term and short intensive courses as they are demand driven.
The centre offers services such as accommodation for up to 100 people, catering for up to 60 people, and conferencing for up to 120 people. In addition, there are also laundry services. These services are offered to both internal and external clients.
