ZESCO LTD was incorporated in 1970 after which the training centre was then established in 1971. The main objectives of the centre were as follows: To equip untrained manpower with basic skills in OHL & CJ not offered in other institutions. Train craftsmen, who could later be upgraded to the levels of Technician, Technologist, and later to Degree level.
To train new people to take over from those skilled persons who left the Corporation through retirement, resignation, separation, or death. Train enough skilled manpower to man the expanding electricity industry To train technical staff to enable them to cope with new Technology
ZESCO TRAINING CENTRE identified four strategic focus areas that will enable the institution to deliver its promise to the customer and subsequently lead to the achievement of the vision. Consultative Curriculum Development The current scenario is that curriculum development is done without consultation with the industry.
As a strategy we will engage all stakeholders in the formulation of new curricula in order to make ZTC business offerings relevant to industry and society at large.
In order to engage in the industry-based practice, the centre will invite all relevant stakeholders to consultative meetings for curriculum development. This will give relevance to ZTC as a training provider and give it a competitive advantage.
Operational Efficiency The prevailing situation at the moment is such that most processes are manual and less inclined towards usage of ICTs. The objective of this strategic theme is thus to make ZTC optimise the use of resources in all its operations by leveraging on ICTs. Efficiency in our operations will entail that we constantly interrogate our processes to ensure that we always adopt better technologies and optimize their use.
“To be a commercially viable institution for specialized technical and vocational training by 2025.”
“To provide customer-centric technical and vocational training, consultancy, research, and hospitality services. “
At ZTC, our organizational soul is reflected in our shared values:
The administration building houses the library. In any institution of higher learning the library is regarded as the backbone of the curriculum. It plays a complementary role in teaching and it reinforces the accomplishment of the training aims and purposes.
The centre admits both in-service and school leavers to its programmes. ZESCO Ltd Head office in Lusaka selects in-service students from within ZESCO Ltd for various Directorates. The list of selected students is then sent to the centre.
